History

Short Funeral Services, along with Berry-Short Funeral Homes, are owned and operated by George and Janet Short. George and Janet are life long residents of Kent and Sussex Counties Delaware. The Short Family has been providing its services to the area’s communities for many years. The guiding principle at each location has been to offer compassionate, caring services designed to provide peace of mind and heart to grieving families and loved ones in their time of need.

Milton, DE

Our Milton, DE facility is nestled in the charming and historic town of Milton. The funeral home was once the residence of Governor James Ponder, the 44th Governor of the State of Delaware. He served as governor from 1871-1875. He passed away on November 5, 1897, and is interred in Goshen Cemetery, Milton. It has been the Short Families’ intent to keep this stately facility as near to period as possible and it is part of Delaware's Historic Register.

Georgetown, DE

It is has been our honor to continue the professional and compassionate tradition of the Esham Funeral Home of Georgetown, DE. The Short Family acquired the facility from Bill and Edna Esham in 1988. As of December 2000, the Short Family completed a two-year construction project on their Georgetown facility. Recognizing that Georgetown, the County Seat, is growing within and outside its borders, the new facility will be more than adequate to handle the needs and wishes of an expanding community for years to come.

Milford, DE

The location of this Funeral Home gives us the opportunity to serve the communities of Milford, Harrington, Bowers, Frederica, Slaughter Neck, Lincoln and Ellendale.

The Milford Funeral Home was constructed in 1952 by the late William A Berry Jr. Mr. Berry had the foresight to build a funeral home with plenty of room and ample parking for his client families to utilize. The funeral home is located near the heart of downtown Milford and is conveniently located near Milford Community Cemetery (formerly known as Odd Fellows Cemetery). The City of Milford has also gone to great lengths to revitalize the downtown and waterfront districts with new brick sidewalks and Victorian Street lights. We are pleased to be part of this revitalization area.

Felton, DE

We are proud to serve such communities as Felton, Harrington, Viola, and Frederica from the Berry-Short Funeral Home of Felton, DE.

Our Felton Funeral Home is a stately facility located across from the Lake Forest Elementary School within walking distance of Rt. 13. The Felton Funeral Home has been around since the early 1900's and is a permanent fixture in the community. This funeral home was started by William A Berry Sr. and has continued in operation since the Shorts purchased it in 1998. Since the acquisition, the Shorts have spent a great deal of time and effort renovating the entire funeral home and its surroundings.
