William Scott Bata, born on June 17, 1958, in Evanston, Illinois, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the Delaware Hospice Center of Milford, DE.
William moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore from Illinois and later to Delaware in 2002, where he worked as the Slot Operations Manager for Harrington Raceway and Casino.
William enjoyed several hobbies over the years, one of which was his favorite online game, War Dragons. His gaming community regarded him as a dedicated team player, where he achieved top status in their diamond one league. But his most passionate hobby was collecting antiques and fine art glass. He had a keen eye for authenticity, beauty and history. He also truly loved a good project, from the early planning stages through its final completion. You would often find him diligently working, trying to accomplish as much as he could in a day, before reaching what he considered the ideal stopping point. This is the same manner in which he lived his life; intentionally and wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his wife, Cherie E. Tayrien, and sister, Kathy Dobner. William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margarete Elfrieda (Kutschera) Bata, and step-son JC West. He will be remembered for his dedication and generosity and cherished forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in Berry-Short Funeral Home in Felton, Delaware.
