Vonda Rae Joseph passed away January 20, 2026 at home with her family by her side.
Vonda was born January 22, 1954, the daughter of Eunice E. Schyler and Harvey E. Schyler, and later adopted by Joseph H. Murphy.
She married the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Joseph, on June 29, 1986. They spent 40 years together. He is a humble, quiet man who brightened her life every day. His strong faith in Jesus brought peace to their home daily.
Also, Vonda leaves behind her daughter, Tina Hammel, and grandsons Ashton, Taylor, and Marcus Hammel.
Vonda was known for taking care of others with love and kindness. She had a passion for animals, especially dogs. She worked at First Omni Bank, was the owner of Country Video, and ended her career after 19 years of service at Easter Seals of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where she was able to assist those with disabilities.
Vonda was the co-founder of The ARK of Refuge Mission-Shelter in 2004, volunteering to feed and assist those less fortunate in the community, being the hands and feet of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Murphy; her mother, Eunice Murphy; her grandmother, Laura White Phillips; and several great-aunts and uncles.
Vonda was a Christian with a strong faith in prayer. Her life here on earth ends in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be missed by many family and friends, especially her beloved fur-baby, JC.
A memorial will be held on February 7, 2026 at 12 o'clock noon in the Gumboro Fire Hall.
