Obituary

Valerie Ann Wing, 79, of Georgetown, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, in the early morning of April 26, 2026.

Valerie was born on October 14, 1946, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to the late Nelly and Lester Holston. She moved with her family to Georgetown, where her father served as a police officer for the Town of Georgetown and her mother worked as a hairdresser. Valerie attended Georgetown High School and graduated with the Class of 1964.

In 1965, Valerie married Nathaniel Wing, and together they raised two sons, David (born 1966) and Mark (born 1972).

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Nelly and Lester Holston, and her brother, David Holston and his wife, Stephanie.

Throughout her life, Valerie held a variety of job roles, a switchboard operator with Diamond State Telephone, she later worked at ILC Dover, where she contributed to the design and sewing of spacesuits for the Apollo 13 mission, as well as fire suits for NASCAR drivers, including Richard Petty. She retired from Perdue after many years as a flock coordinator. Valerie also served her community through her work in local government offices in the Town of Georgetown and Sussex County.

A woman of deep compassion and generosity, Valerie gave freely many years of her time as a volunteer with the Moose Fraternity, serving as Senior Regent and Chaplain in the Lewes-Rehoboth Women of the Moose.

Valerie found joy in crocheting, crafting, and collecting jewelry, reflecting her love of gemology. She was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and the Philadelphia Eagles. Above all, she will be remembered as a kind, creative, and thoughtful person who touched many lives.

Valerie is survived by her sons, Mark Wing and his wife, Zandra; their children, Sarah Wing and Timothy Sauers, David Wing; his children Zeke Wing, Destyni Church, and Brynlee; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a large extended family and a caring community of friends.

Valerie will be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
