Obituary

Susan Elaine Goins passed away unexpectedly on August 25, 2026, at the age of 68.

Susan was born on May 21, 1958, in Milford, Delaware, grew up in Milton, and later made her home in Georgetown. She spent her career as a lab technician at Intervet, which was later acquired by Merck, before her retirement.

Susan cared deeply about her family and her community. She was the current President of the Georgetown Fire Company Auxiliary and served as a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 95 for many years. She was always willing to lend a hand, help with an event, or simply do whatever needed to be done.

Anyone who knew Susan knew she loved to laugh and have a good time. She was always ready for another trip to Disney or the Outer Banks and rarely needed much convincing to go. She was also well known for her cooking, especially her famous chicken salad, which became a favorite throughout the community and across the state.

More than anything, Susan loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She loved having her family together and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Her sudden passing leaves an enormous hole in a family that counted on her to bring everyone together.

Susan is survived by her husband, Bill Goins; her sons, Mike (Kacie) Goins and Matt (Beth) Goins; her grandchildren, William, Reid, and Rylee Goins; her four brothers, Gary (Catherine), Jim (Peggy), Bill, and Bob (Bonnie) Coulbourne; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John (Wm) Coulbourne and Grace Coulbourne.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Services, Georgetown Chapel, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Delaware. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 1, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Susan’s memory to the Georgetown Fire Company Auxiliary, an organization that meant a great deal to her.
