Steven Craig Lorentz, born on August 23, 1949, in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at Wilmington Hospital. Steven dedicated 26 remarkable years to the United States Navy, serving as a Navy Corpsman. His commitment to saving lives during the Vietnam War earned him the esteemed title of Master Chief. A true patriot, he exemplified the values of service and dedication to his country throughout his life.
In addition to his distinguished military career, Steven was known for his intelligence, quick wit, and distinctive dry sense of humor. He was an active member of his community, serving as a Mason and commander at Milford's VFW, as well as being affiliated with the American Legion. His passion for woodworking and baking was well-known, particularly his impressive repertoire of 36 signature cheesecake flavors that delighted family and friends alike.
Family was at the core of Steven's life. He was a loving husband to Wanda Lorentz, with whom he celebrated 23 years of marriage. Steven was a devoted step-father to Cory Herlihy and a caring step-father to his daughter Tracy Lombard and her husband Christopher Lombard, and foster daughter Cathy Smith. He cherished his grandchildren—Kyle Lombard, Mikala Herlihy, Taylor Lombard, and McKenzie Herlihy—who brought immense joy to his life. Along with his two fur babies, Gus and Izzy.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and his brother, Philip Lorentz and Philip’s wife Linda, along with a niece and a nephew. His legacy of love and service will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on July 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at Berry-Short Funeral Homes, located at 119 NW Front St, Milford, Delaware. A graveside service will take place afterward at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro at 1:00 PM.
