In Loving Memory of Scott Hughes
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Scott Hughes, a man whose life was defined by unwavering work ethic, deep devotion to his family, and a spirit as strong as it was kind. Scott passed away on July 11th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, loyalty, and laughter.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years, Scott helped build thousands of homes across the state of Delaware—shaping not only neighborhoods, but countless lives along the way. His dedication and craftsmanship culminated in his role as a superintendent at Blenheim Homes, where he led with pride, precision, and purpose.
Scott was a proud and stubborn soul—qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. He lived life on his own terms and brought grit and integrity to everything he did. His greatest joy came not from accolades or achievements, but from the simple, meaningful moments: riding his side-by-side through the hills of West Virginia, casting a line in quiet waters, hitting the golf course with friends, and cherishing every second spent with his grandchildren.
A passionate outdoorsman and proud gun enthusiast, Scott found peace and purpose in nature—but nothing meant more to him than family. He was a devoted husband, father, and “Pop Pop” whose love was fierce and unconditional.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Debbie Hughes; his children, Brandon Hughes and his wife Jillian Hughes, Brittney Hughes, and Brooke Whitney; and his cherished grandchildren, Bailey Whitney, Remi Juarez, and Sayer Lynch.
Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted in knowing that Scott’s legacy lives on in every home he helped build, every story told, every lesson remembered, and every smile from the grandchildren he adored. He was one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life in Scott's Honor will be held on September 20, 2025 at Houston Fire Hall, 143 Broad Street, Houston, DE, from 1pm to 5pm.
