Sandra Kay
Brubaker
Jan 10, 1940 — Oct 24, 2026
Milton
Sandra Kay Brubaker passed away on October 24, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on January 10, 1940, Sandra lived a life marked by kindness, faith, curiosity, and a deep love for others.
Sandra was kind and loving toward everyone, and she truly loved to be alive. She had a very personal relationship with God, and her faith was a guiding presence throughout her life. She was a member of the Brethren in Christ and attended Eagles Nest Church in Milton. Her life reflected a heart for service and compassion, and she loved taking care of people in both large and small ways.
That caring spirit was evident in the many children she welcomed and nurtured, having cared for more than twenty children in foster care. She also spent eight years serving the community in Zambia, a meaningful chapter in a life devoted to helping others. In 2018, she moved from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Delaware, carrying with her the same warmth, generosity, and strength of spirit that had long defined her.
Sandra found joy in many interests. She loved gardening, treasured her dogs, and enjoyed investing. She also had a lively and inquisitive mind, taking pleasure in researching and learning about anything and everything that sparked her curiosity, and was known to be able to fix almost anything She was an excellent writer and was in the process of creating her memoir, a fitting reflection of a woman who valued both memory and meaning.
She is survived by her son Victor Brubaker and his fiancée, Susan Volk. She is also survived by her daughter Deborah Shank and Deborah's husband, Phillip; her son-in-law David; her brother Joe Weidmer and his wife, Rosetta; and her grandchildren, Savannah Shank and Austin Shank, and dozens of people who call her "mom". Each of them carries forward the memory of her love, her faith, and the many ways she cared for those around her.
Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Levi Brubaker; her parents, John and Alice Boorsma; her sister, Jean Arbuckle; her brother, John Michael Boorsma; and her son, Timothy Brubaker, who passed away in 2004.
Sandra Kay Brubaker will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to God, her service to others, and the joy she brought into the lives of those who knew her. Her life was one of purpose, compassion, and enduring grace, and her memory will remain a blessing to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent to Brethren in Christ World Missions for the work in Zambia, 431 Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
