GEORGETOWN—Samuel W. Warrington, a lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 100 years old.
Sam was born on the family farm in Millsboro, De on November 4, 1925, the son of the late John Pride Warrington and Ruth Cora (Joseph) Warrington.
Sam served his country proudly during WWII in the United States Navy. After the Navy, he was employed by All American Engineering in Georgetown then Indian River Power Plant Delmarva Power until his retirement.
Sam stayed busy with several Georgetown and local area organizations. Sam served as Past Master of Franklin Lodge No. 12, Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Evergreen Forest No. 49, Union Lodge No. 3 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, American Legion Post #8, Past Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel No. 5 International Order of Job’s Daughters, and member of Providence Community Church.
Sam enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and raising his own beef cattle. He especially enjoyed attending any, and all, of his children or grandchildren’s events.
In addition to both of his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae (Mears) Warrington, and a brother, James D. Warrington.
He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Willing (Mike), his son, Stephen Warrington (Charlene), all of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Katie Skidmore (Matt) of Millsboro, Beth Goins (Matt), and Kelsi Warrington (Fiancé JD Messeck) all of Georgetown; and three great-grandchildren, Drake Skidmore, Reid Goins and Tucker Skidmore.
A visitation that will include Masonic and I.O.O. F. funeral rites will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 6-8pm. A second visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 10-11am immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Both visitations and funeral service will be held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, De.
Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at 1:00pm in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, De 19966.
Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or Providence Community Church, C/O Connie Mears, 21595 Paradise Rd. Georgetown, DE 19947.
