Ruth "Anita" Johnson Lee Fischer, a cherished member of the Greenwood community, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at her beloved home in Greenwood, Delaware. Born on August 23, 1935, to Otis L. Johnson and Huldah Smith, Ruth led a life rich with love, adventure, and the warmth of family.

In an era when few women pursued such ambitious paths, Ruth carved a unique niche for herself as an Amway distributor, coupled with her remarkable achievement of becoming a licensed airplane pilot in the 1970s. Her adventurous spirit shone brightly, illuminating not only her path but also inspiring those around her. Ruth had a remarkable ability to extract joy from every moment, and her vivacious personality reflected her deep appreciation for both life and family.

She is warmly remembered by her loving sons, James (Lara) Lee, Lawrence (Lynn) Lee, and Richard (Ada) Lee, who reside in Milford. Ruth's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jordan, Christopher, Jessica, Jacob, Lauren, and Amanda Lee, as well as her great-grandchild, Stella Yutzy. Each of them carries a piece of her jovial spirit and zest for life.

Ruth was preceded in death by her dear sister, Jeanette Lankford, and her devoted parents, Otis and Huldah, who undoubtedly smiled down on her throughout her journey.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ruth's life during the visitation scheduled for January 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Berry-Short Funeral Homes in Milford, Delaware. This will be followed by a funeral service at noon. Ruth will then be laid to rest in interment at Oakley Cemetery in Ellendale, DE, where she will forever be embraced by the land she loved.

Ruth Anita Johnson Lee Fischer leaves a legacy of love, cherished memories, and an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her. Her spirit will continue to soar, much like the planes she once flew, as she watches over her family from above.
