GEORGETOWN – Rodney F. Baker passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Beebe Healthcare.
Rodney was born in Milford, Delaware, son of the late David C. Sr., and Eva Mae (Atkins) Baker. Rodney joined the Navy in 1969 after graduating from Georgetown High School. He also got a degree in electrical engineering. He began his career with NCR, Millsboro, Delaware and later with K&L Microwave, Salisbury, Maryland, and retired after several years with BAI Aerosystems in Easton, Maryland.
Rodney loved his family dearly and was blessed to have the opportunity to officiate the marriage of his son, Brandon, to his wife, Sara after getting ordained. He cherished his time playing with his granddaughters and especially hearing them call him “Pop Pop”.
Rodney had an amazing talent and ingenuity for fixing most anything electrical and mechanical. He continued to have a passion for learning new things and loved using his hands including helping his family with projects.
In addition to his parents, Rodney is preceded in death by two brothers, David C. Baker, Jr. and Ira Baker.
Rodney leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Jeanie L. (Shipley) Baker; one son, Brandon Baker and wife Sara; two grandchildren, Madison Baker and Riley Baker; a sister, Linda Baker Wingate and partner Bobby Cannella; and his niece, Ivy Baker Nabors and husband Bill.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2025, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Delaware.
