Robert M. DeLong, Jr., a dedicated master electrician and cherished member of the Delaware community, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Milford, Delaware, under the compassionate care of the staff and nurses at Delaware Hospice Center. Born on January 10, 1948, in Milford, he was a lifelong resident of Delaware, where he built a legacy grounded in service, dedication, and love for his family and friends.

Robert proudly served his country as a Vietnam-era US Navy veteran, where he worked in damage control on the USS John F. Kennedy. He was not only present for the ship's maiden voyage but also a plank owner, marking a significant chapter in both his life and the history of naval service.

Robert had a long career as a master electrician, including an impressive 23 years with the State of Delaware, a role in which he demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment. Known for his stubbornness, reminiscent of his mother, he possessed a gentle heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need of electrical work, often refusing any form of payment in return.

Robert was a proud graduate of the Felton High School Class of 1966. Outside of his professional life, he found joy in the outdoors through fishing and hunting, adventures that he cherished deeply.

Robert leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Brenda Hickman DeLong, whom he married on May 26, 1995. He is survived by his daughter Angela Lynn DeLong; his son Robert M. DeLong III and his wife Nicole; and stepchildren Karen Timmons, Lisa Reynolds and her husband Mike, and Brian Timmons and his wife Elsa. He was a proud grandfather to Morgan, Dylan, Colton, Ethan, and his wife, Natalie, along with their daughter, Myla. Additionally, Robert is survived by his brother Michael I. DeLong and his sister Janet Lynn Egler and her husband George. He also leaves behind 7 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. DeLong Sr. and Ruth Bertha (Casper) DeLong.
