Richard Alan Reid, 72, of Bowers Beach, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 28, 2026. He was born and raised in Groton, MA by the late Laurence and Elsie Reid (Brown), on July 13, 1954.

Richard was a retired Air Force Fire Fighter, serving in Aviano Air Base (Italy), Bitburg Air Force Bace (Germany), Sudan, and several bases stateside finally retiring at Loring Air Force Base, Maine. After the military, he worked as a civilian fire fighter at Fort Devens, MA and then entered the commercial bus driving as a motor coach driver, a school bus driver and shuttle bus driver at the Delaware State Fair. He was a proud member of the Bowers Beach Fire Department. Those who knew him best, remember him as “Happy go lucky”, always joking laughing, and being mischievous. He was known by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Sucker” which he teased constantly.

Richard is survived by his partner, Robert “Bob” Spicer; three children: Samantha Reid, Timothy Reid, and James Reid; sisters Janet Thoren and Margaret “Peg” Wyman, and brother William “Bill” Reid; several nieces and nephews and grandchildren, for which he loved endlessly. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother James Reid.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bowers Fire Department on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
