Richard S.
Jennings, Sr.
August 5, 1960 – June 4, 2026
Richard S. “Rick” Jennings, Sr., 65
LINCOLN – Richard S. “Rick” Jennings, Sr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Rick was born in Milford, son of the late Robert and Mabel (Wilkins) Jennings. He was a lifelong resident of Sussex County and whether fishing or hunting, he loved being outdoors.
Rick was a dedicated and hard-working man. He began working as a young man with his father at Jennings Piling. After his father retired, he and his brother started J&J Logging which operated locally for many years. Rick worked as a truck driver, driving many area miles, as well as long haul runs, most recently with Buntings Garage.
When he wasn’t on the road, Rick enjoyed watching football and was an avid KC Chiefs fan. He loved giving you a hard time and being stubborn. That stubborn streak also gave way to his soft side, especially when it came to family and his kitties, Jingles and Sissy, whom he missed dearly.
In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by a sister, Jean Hawley and brother-in-law Lew, a brother, Bill Jennings, brother-in-law Dave Coverdale, his father-in-law, Harold Dutton, Sr., and mother-in-law, Charlotte Jennings.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Kathy (Dutton) Jennings; three sons, Michael Jennings, Richard S. Jennings Jr (Tricia), and Kyle Jennings (Gabby); four grandchildren, Chelsea Jennings, Chase Jennings, Colton Jennings, and Stella Hall; a special niece, Arianne Ingalls; one sister, Debbie Coverdale; one brother, Bob Jennings (Kay); sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Smith (Frank), Buddy Dutton (Sue), Billy Dutton, Lisa Dutton and Kenny Dutton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were like family.
Rick will be deeply missed and forever be remembered by all who knew him. Even thou he is gone he will always be in our hearts and minds.
It was Rick’s request to his family that no formal services be held.
