Obituary

Rhonald E. Jernigan was born on August 17, 1943, and passed away on November 2, 2026, at the age of 83.

He grew up in Texas, and soon after graduating high school he entered the Army. Rhonald served in Korea, and stateside for 2 years. In 1967 he married Carolyn Schult and was married for 59 years.

Rhon was a hard worker since he was a young adult. He was mechanically inclined at a young age and was always working on something. He had many occupations through the years such as a finance manager, carpenter, chicken and pig farmer. He took pride in building his children’s homes as well as his own. He enjoyed camping, fishing, painting, and golf, but his real love was restoring automobiles. He especially enjoyed British sports cars. He found cars that had been neglected and left to rust away and brought them back to life. He performed all the tasks that it took to restore the cars to their former glory, welding, paint, body work, mechanical work, and his specialty, tuning S.U. Carburetors. He could be found in “The Shop” when he wasn’t tending chickens or helping to build houses etc. He was not much for sitting around and was always tinkering on something. When the weather turned cold in Delaware he would head to Florida. He loved his family and friends very much and was always ready to help when needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother. He is survived by his sister Jane Lopez (Tony), wife Carolyn Jernigan, children daughter, Cristine Eskridge (Donald), son, Ronald Jernigan (Lisa), grandchildren Erryn (Porter) Sciba and Matison Smith, Grant & Kelsey Jernigan, and 1 great grandchild, Hallie Bea Sciba.

A visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th, at Short Funeral Services in Georgetown, Delaware and the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately after the services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rhon’s name to:
