Nancy Jean Cate, aged 84, passed away on January 5, 2026, at AccentCare Hospice at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Born on December 13, 1941, in Washington, D.C., Nancy was known for her warmth, creativity, and devotion to her family.
A dedicated homemaker and daycare operator, Nancy built a life centered around nurturing and caring. She was especially cherished by the children she cared for, providing them with a safe and loving environment. Her passion for her work and the joy she derived from it reflected her giving nature.
Nancy's love for animals, particularly dogs, was evident throughout her life. She had a keen eye for design, often transforming spaces with her talents in landscaping and home interior decorating. Her home was adorned with lush plants and vibrant flowers, bringing beauty into the lives of all who visited.
A member of Grace Church in Milton, Delaware, Nancy's faith was a cornerstone of her life. In 1987, she married Robert "Bob" Louis Cate, beginning a partnership that would last until her passing. In 2006, they moved from Bowie, Maryland to Milton, Delaware, where they continued to build cherished memories together.
An avid birdwatcher, Nancy had a particular fascination with hummingbirds and often found tranquility in observing nature. Known for her skills as an excellent baker, she delighted friends and family with her delicious creations, further showcasing her nurturing spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia (Thompson) Perry.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Bob; her children, David Neese (Miriam), Donald Neese, and Lori Blomsteel (Mark); as well as 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with love and fondness.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milton at 12:00 o'clock noon. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
Nancy's legacy of kindness, creativity, and family devotion will remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
