Michelle
Erskine
June 30, 1966 – June 10, 2026
Michelle R. Erskine, age 59 of Georgetown, Delaware, went Home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from TidalHealth Hospital in Seaford, DE, after a brief illness.
She was born June 30, 1966, in Salisbury, MD, the daughter of the late Donald C. Scott and Nancy Christensen Scott.
Shelly served the Indian River School District for over two decades, where she taught 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts, being voted Teacher of the Year of Georgetown Middle School in the early 2000s. Her ability to engage students, using Tim McGraw’s song “Humble and Kind” as a classroom mantra, made learning both fun and meaningful, and left a lasting impact—several of her former students calling her their favorite teacher, many following in her footsteps to become part of the public education system because of the love and joy she brought to their school experience.
Shelly loved singing, recording four solo CDs, and was part of The Old Time Gospel Singers gospel quartet. Her passion for thrifting led her to scores of stores in several states where she never saw a purse, book, or sweatshirt- or anything else, for that matter- that she didn’t like. She was an active member of Shiloh Community Church in Laurel, DE, and found joy in her church family, church activities, and singing.
Shelly is survived by her husband Mark Erskine; two daughters Logan Hudson and Bailey Erskine; three stepchildren Ben Erskine, Kaia Erskine, and Allison Woods; seven grandchildren Brooks Byram, Roya Erskine Dongell, Alea Erskine Dongell, Scott Erskine, Brieanna Erskine, David Erskine, Apphia Erskine; brother Lance Scott; uncle Les Scott, and mother Nancy Christensen. She leaves behind many special friends who will deeply miss her gentle and sweet spirit.
A Memorial Service will be held in Shelly’s honor at Shiloh Community Church, 14181 Shiloh Church Road, Laurel, DE, on a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Shelly’s name to Shiloh Community Church, P.O. Box 186, Laurel, DE, 19956.
