MILTON, Del – Lynne Zamil Maloy, a philanthropist, an activist, intellectual and socialite, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 13, 2021, shortly after sundown surrounded by family, after a brief struggle with cancer. Lynne was a woman who could take over a room and make everyone feel special. Born in Newport, RI and graduated from Mt. Vernon University in Washington, DC, she traveled around the world before pursuing a colorful and successful career in public works, including working for the National Children’s Museum in DC. After moving to Delaware, and marrying her husband, Patrick Maloy, on December 31, 1991 in Dewey Beach, Del, Lynne continued working in nonprofits. A vigilant fundraiser, she helped build and fund the Jefferson School in Georgetown, and made many more milestones throughout Sussex County. A few being the construction of the new theater for Possum Point Players in Georgetown, and the famous Rehoboth Main Street –Dolphins of Rehoboth Project, as well as, Campaign Director of the Rehoboth Art League. Finally, in her retirement, she founded Unfinished Business; a community thrift shop in Rehoboth Beach, in 2013. Lynne is survived by her husband of 30 years, Patrick Maloy; and their 28 year old daughter, Alexandria Maloy. She also leaves behind three sisters, one brother, and a great many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lynne could not do all the good the world needed, but we needed all the good that she could do. Her memorial will live on in her accomplishments and in our hearts and minds. Burial services will be held privately.
