Born on October 27, 1945, in Milford, he was a son of the late Louis H. Carpenter, Sr. and Nellie Delema (Dickerson) Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Nancy K. Carpenter, who he cherished for 19 years until her passing in 2013.
Dick dedicated over 30 years of his life to Milford Fertilizer, a business started by his father. His fidelity to his work was evident, and even after retirement, he displayed an enduring work ethic by returning part-time to the NAPA Auto Parts parts department in Milford, a role he cherished until health issues prevented him from continuing.
As a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Dick exemplified dedication not only to his profession but also to his country. His spirit was infectious; he was known for his warm welcome, trademark wink, and an ability to share an infectious laugh that could light up any room. Dick's compassionate nature extended beyond his immediate circle, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Educated at Milford High School, Dick held a passion for sports and enjoyed being a fervent fan of NASCAR, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles. His love for life was evident in his hobbies, especially his affection for dachshunds, which brought him joy and companionship.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his sobriety for 36 years. Dick devoted much of his time giving back to his community, helping countless individuals through his local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter, serving as a beacon of hope and support for those in their time of need.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer McCoy and her husband Sam, and his son, Daniel Gronke. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Aaron Anderson and his wife Krystal, Haylee Anderson, Madysyn Anderson, and Nathan Gronke.
Visitation for Dick will be held on September 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service starting at 12:00 PM at Berry-Short Funeral Homes located at 119 NW Front St, Milford, DE 19963.
