Lorraine M. Swift, née Gentry, peacefully passed away on August 2, 2026, at the Snow Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Snow Hill, Maryland, at the age of 96. Born on February 12, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, Lorraine lived a long and fulfilling life marked by unwavering devotion to her family, tireless service to her community, and a gracious spirit that touched all who knew her.

Lorraine was the beloved daughter of Willard Gentry and Margaret Gentry (Seeman), both of whom preceded her in death. She remained close to her brothers, George and Jimmy, whose memories remain cherished parts of her story. Lorraine’s journey of learning began at Lees McCrae Business School, where she developed the skills and work ethic that would guide her professional life.

In 1966, Lorraine made Delaware her home—a state she would come to love and where she would create decades of meaningful memories. Her career was defined by dedication and versatility. She was  a valued member of the University of Delaware co-op extension in Georgetown, Delaware, where her energy and compassion left a lasting impression on colleagues and the community alike.

Lorraine’s personal life was enriched through two marriages. She was preceded in death by the father of her four oldest children, Alfred Pusey, and the father of her youngest, William Swift, as well as her step-son Butch Swift. 

She is survived by her devoted children: Debbie Wells and her husband Fred; Barbara Todd; Tommy Pusey and his wife Kathy; Ricky Pusey; and Susan Lynch and her husband Tad; as well as her brother Paul Seeman and his wife Ann. Lorraine nurtured a robust and joyful family, and her spirit lives on through her grandchildren: Michael Wells (Lori), Kimberly Kneller (Mark), Andrea Marine (Matt), Andrew Pusey, Erika Holgers, Zachary Lynch (Ashlyn), and Lukas Pusey. Her ever-growing legacy also includes numerous great-grandchildren: Kayla, Madelyn, Lily, Kaden, Mason, Cheyenne, Brianna, Ellie, Juliette, Maggie, and great great grandson, Colson. Additionally, Lorraine is fondly remembered by her niece Lori Hamaker and nephew Ronnie Hamaker, each holding a special place in her heart.

A pillar of grace and hospitality, Lorraine was known as an avid homemaker and an excellent hostess, always ready to welcome friends and family with warmth and laughter. She excelled at decorating her home and was lauded for her cooking and entertaining, creating gatherings filled with love and cheer. Her talents were many—she found joy in playing dominoes, and her hands were rarely still, crafting beautiful works through sewing, crochet, and other crafts.

Firm in her faith, Lorraine was a proud member of the Milford Church of God, drawing strength and community from her spiritual home.

Family and friends are invited to reminisce, honor, and celebrate Lorraine's remarkable life at a viewing on Thursday, August 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Short Funeral Services in Georgetown, Delaware (609 E Market St, Georgetown, DE 19947). The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM sharp at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware (26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966).

Lorraine's legacy is one of steadfast love, generosity, and kindness. She leaves behind a family bound together by her unwavering example and a community whose lives were brightened by her presence. Her memory will be treasured always, and she will be deeply missed.
