Lawrence F. Hills

Lawrence F. Hills passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 94.

Lawrence was born in Hickman, DE on February 18, 1931, son of Floyd and Marie Hills.

Lawrence drove a semi-truck for 38 years for Matthews Machine Shop, Victor Lynn, Masten, TIE, and Red Star Express. After he retired in 1994, he and his wife Margaret grew beautiful gardens, canning their own vegetables, and growing his prize-winning Ford Hook Limas.

Lawrence loved hunting, which he did from a young age. He hunted bear in Maine, and deer, ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrel, and ground hogs in Delaware. He was devoted to spending time as a family doing one of his favorite things.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, who passed in 2008; his brothers James Hills and Frank Hills; his sisters Elda Gaulke, Grace Foraker, and Dorothy Legates.

He is survived by his children: daughter Cheryll Hills McWilliams (late husband Jack), son Lawrence “Larry” F. Hills, and son Michael Hills (wife Tina); 6 grandchildren: Robin McWilliams Targett, Kris McWilliams (wife Leslie), Stacy Hills Millward (husband Chad), Rachel Hills, Kaleb Hills (wife Sierra), and Jordyn Hills; 7 great grandchildren: Morgan McWilliams Groat (husband Rory), Tyler McWilliams, Alex McWilliams, Declan McWilliams, Kylee Millward, Liam Hills, and Kade Hills; and 1 great great granddaughter Gwyneth Noa Groat, who is four months old.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00am, with a viewing to begin at 10:00am, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. Interment to follow at Milford Community Cemetery.
