Larry M. Hughes

August 1, 1961 — April 2, 2025

Felton, Delaware

Larry M. Hughes, 63 of Felton died Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at his home. The son of the late Mervin Hartford and Irene Brooker Hughes on August 1, 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dale Shuememan and more recently his cousin, David Quillen and Aunt Rosalie Kelly of Felton.

Anyone that knew Larry, knew he was a hustler and had one speed…. Which was full speed- ahead. He worked hard, played hard, and loved many. He graduated from Lake Forest High School Class of 1979 and studied Auto Body at Vo-Tech. He owned and operated Hughes Works at his home in Felton, repairing, painting and fixing cars anything else for friend or foe. It’s there that he helped anyone in need whether neighbor, friend, family or stranger. He was gifted and could fix anything. Earlier years, he worked at L & D Suzuki in Dover, and Delaware Solid Waste Authority. Larry drove the scrapple truck delivering scrapple for the family business Hughes Delaware Maid Scrapple.

Larry lived & loved life to the fullest! He loved hunting, motor cross, 4 wheelers, car shows and shooting pool and his motorcycles. If it had wheels Larry was on it. He was a car enthusiast and has restored and showed classic cars and enjoyed going to the shows. Another passion of his, was his animals and horses. He owned and raced standard bred horses. Although Larry didn’t have children of his own, he influenced the neighborhood kids, his family cousins, friend’s children and their kids. He loved them unconditionally and was a mentor. They all admired and loved him. He would help anyone no matter what age. He had a heart of gold and would lend a helping hand to anyone for any need. It didn’t matter.

He is survived by his brother Eugene “Chip” Rosan and wife Margie, nephews Christopher and wife Erin Rosan and Michael Rosan. A sister Carol Pastore (John). Many cousins, whom were like brothers and sisters and Aunt Lenora Hughes Stephens. A host of special caring friends, that were like family to him. Larry’s friendship was genuine, golden. His steadfast circle of friends is far too many to mention, but do not go unrecognized and played a vital role is his life. If you knew Larry you knew he loved you and treasured your friendship. His presence will be missed and his devoted friendship will always hold a special place in our hearts. He left us far too early here on earth.
