Karen Lea Wootten

March 26, 1954 — September 25, 2025

Lincoln, Delaware

Karen L. Wootten, age 71, passed away on Thursday September 25, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center. Karen was born in Milford, Delaware to the late Ray W. Wootten and Gwendolyn (Norman)Layton.

Karen loved adventures to many places but specifically the Outer Banks with family, cruises, and outings to the boardwalk. She spent many previous years living in Daytona Beach, Fl. as a caregiver to some lucky folks. She enjoyed watering the manatees every morning while drinking her cup of coffee. Karen was well known for her cooking skills, specifically her sausage and gravy as well as her mean sub making skills. She had worked at Mills Brothers on Marshall Street in Milford and customers would only get their subs made by her. They were delicious. Karen loved Jesus and her family very much.

The last four years Karen has lived with her sister, Sharon. Sharon has been the best caretaker and been there on the daily. This has given the rest of the family peace knowing that she was well taken care of during her journey.

Karen is survived by one daughter, Racheal Elliott (Pete) of Ellendale, DE; one son, Grant Dorman of Lincoln, DE; two sisters, Sharon Mitchell (Whitlaw) of Lincoln, DE, and Beverly Wootten of Fruitland, Md.; two brothers, Ray A. Wootten (Cindy) of Milford, DE, and Jeffery Wootten of Greenwood, DE; three grandchildren, MaKayla Watts (Branden), Abbey Moses, and David Holland; one great-grandchild, Harles Watts; five nieces, Shawna (Joe) Long, Jennifer (Matt) Hoopes, Anastasia Wootten, Samantha(Daniel) Kifer, and Shaina Rhoades; one nephew, Joseph Wootten.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgia Mae Dorman: one sister, Cheryl Goldsmith (James); one grandson, Crawford (lil Pete) Elliott Jr.; one nephew, James Goldsmith Jr.; maternal grandparents, Elwood and Pauline Lynch; paternal grandparents, James and Myrtle O’Neil.

A private family celebration of life will be held.
