Listen to Obituary

Joyce A. Voshell, born July 20, 1939, in Denton, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in Viola, Delaware, on December 22, 2025. Best known as “Doody” to most, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and music. Her warmth, her smile that lit up a room, and her generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Family was the heart of Joyce’s life. She was a devoted mother to Gusty Voshell Jr. (Lisa), Dennis Voshell (Bonnie), Valerie Sard, and Pam Shanehsaz. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching her children and grandchildren grow and succeed. She was a loving grandmother, better known as “Mommom,” to Tyler Voshell, Kali Voshell (Jeffrey Haass), Andrew Voshell (Ashley Mogle), Colin Sard, Parker Sard (Brittany), Layla Landry (Ben), and Cyrus Shanehsaz, and her great-grandchild, Polly Haass. Joyce took great pride in supporting her family in all their activities, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. She is also survived by her siblings, Virginia Brady and Bennie Dill.

Joyce’s love for God and music were woven throughout her life. She faithfully played the piano and sang at Lebanon Wesleyan Church for many years. She was also part of numerous gospel groups, traveling and ministering through song, using her God-given talent to uplift and encourage others. Her beautiful, distinctive voice was often compared to that of Loretta Lynn, a comparison that always made her smile.

Joyce had a warm and joyful spirit, and she delighted in spreading cheer, especially during the holidays. Her beloved Christmas Village was a centerpiece of her celebrations, and she especially loved seeing the joy on the faces of family and friends who came to admire it each year. She was also a successful businesswoman who enjoyed her almost daily trips to Wal-Mart. Her grandchildren always knew there would be a Yoo-hoo waiting for them in her fridge and each one's favorite snacks in the pantry.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick Augustus Voshell, Sr., in 2013; her parents, Ralph T. and Florence (Jester) Dill; and her siblings, Reverend Paul Dill, Louise Hamfeldt, Donald Dill, Reverend Robert Dill, John Dill, and Rosalie Voshell.

A viewing in honor of Joyce A. Voshell will be held on January 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a 3:00 PM funeral service at Milford Church of God, 500 North Walnut Street, Milford, Delaware 19963. A repast will follow immediately after the service.

Interment will be at Sharon Hills Odd Fellow Cemetery, 35 Rising Sun Rd, Camden Wyoming, DE 19934, on Sunday January 4, 2026 at 12 PM. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered for her deep love of family, her infectious laugh, her strong faith, and the kindness she shared so freely. Her legacy of love, music, and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched.
