Joseph Anthony D’Esposito passed away on October 9, 2026, at his home in Lincoln, Delaware. He was born on June 1, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York.

Joe lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to those he loved. He served in the United States Air Force and was proud of his service to his country. During his military career, he served as a Master Crew Chief in the U.S. Air Force. Later, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for more than 24 years.

Joe was a man of strong faith who was never ashamed to share it. He was a member of Milford Church of God, a church he loved deeply. He generously gave his time by helping in the food pantry, serving as a camera operator and greeter, assisting with Bus Driver Appreciation Day, decorating for Vacation Bible School, and volunteering wherever there was a need. Those who knew him will remember his outgoing personality, his willingness to help others, and the care he showed his family, friends, and community. Joe was known for his smile, handshakes, and hugs.

Joe found joy in many simple and meaningful parts of life. He enjoyed camping, working in his yard, fixing things, and helping people. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed playing and coaching softball throughout his life. Above all, he was a man of God, a beloved husband and father, and a devoted friend who cared deeply for his family, friends, and church.

He is survived by his wife, Jean D’Esposito; his children, Karen D’Esposito, Louis D’Esposito, Matthew Sumner and his wife, Vivi, and Timmy Sumner and his wife, Lori. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joan Wilson and her husband, Bill, and Lisa Bonilla. Joe’s memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Sage, Trinity, Kera, Stacia, Louis, Leo, and Sylvie, and by his great-grandchildren, Zahara and Zakai.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Geraldine D’Esposito; his brother, John D’Esposito; his sisters, Geraldine Barnes and Debra Peters; and his uncle and mentor, Vincent D’Esposito.

Visitation will be held on October 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Milford Church of God, 500 North Walnut Street, Milford, DE 19963. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Joe D’Esposito will be remembered for his love of God, his family and friends, his service to his country and community, and his readiness to lend a hand. His life was a blessing to many, and his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
