GEORGETOWN – John Alan Lasky, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. He was 76.
John was born on December 11, 1948, in New York City, NY, to Christina (Shanks) Lasky. He graduated from Thomas A. Edison Vocational and Technical High School in Jamaica, NY, in 1966, where he studied cabinet making.
In May 1968, John proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to train in helicopter maintenance at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota until his honorable discharge in 1972. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.
John welcomed his daughter, Stacy, in 1971. In 1994, he met the love of his life, Janelle (Moran), and the two were married in 1996.
Professionally, John worked at Grand Forks Airport as an operations specialist before joining the City of Grand Forks. In 1997, he and Janelle relocated to Delaware, where he worked for the Delaware State Housing Authority until his retirement in 2012.
John was a proud member of the American Legion and a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He found joy in dining at local restaurants and spending time with his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Christina and John J. Lasky. He is survived by his loving wife, Janelle; daughter, Stacy (Darin) MacDonald; and granddaughter, Beth MacDonald, along with her fiancé, Kyle.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Grace of God Lutheran Church, 26089 Shoppes at Long Neck, Millsboro, Delaware 19966 at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. A private interment will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in John’s memory to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown or Delaware Veterans.
John will be remembered for his devotion to his country, his family, and the simple joys of life. He will be deeply missed.
