John W. Boback

John W. Boback, 71, of Milton, DE, passed away on June 2, 2025, surrounded by family. John was born and raised in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, PA, to Joseph and Regina Boback (née Carr)

John is survived by his beloved sister Regina (Jack), sisters-in-law Patricia and Debbie; also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many dear friends. John was predeceased by his parents and siblings Joseph, Anne “Nancy”, and Edward.

John earned a Doctorate in Education and had a passion for teaching. He spent the final part of his career at Masterman School in Philadelphia, where he served as a math teacher and later as Dean of Students.

During the summers and after his retirement, John (known as Hedda) worked as a bartender, where he made customers feel welcome and brought laughter to many, many of whom became lifelong friends.

John was deeply loved by his family and friends. He had a caring heart and a gift for making those around him feel seen and valued. A devoted animal lover, John rescued many dogs and cats over the years, giving them safe, comfortable lives filled with love.

John enjoyed the beach life in Rehoboth, always up for brunch and fun with friends and relaxing at home by his pool, where he loved to read with his cherished pets always by his side.

May John’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.

A private interment will take place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
