Obituary

Joanne Walls Parsons passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday June 1st, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born September 7th, 1943 in Lewes DE to Josiah D. Walls and Ethel (Rogers) Walls

Joanne grew into a gentle, faith-filled soul whose life touched everyone she met.

After graduating from Lewes High School, Joanne married the love of her life James “Skip” L Parsons Jr on June 7, 1962. They settled in the Lewes community, and raised a family. The family attended First Baptist Church in Lewes, and then Georgetown.

In addition to caring for her family, Joanne spent many years working in sales, where her natural warmth, patience, and genuine care for people made her unforgettable. She had a gift for making others feel seen and valued, and she carried that gift far beyond her work.

She was a woman whose kindness could soften any day and whose smile could lift any spirit.

Whether she was greeting someone with her bright smile or offering a comforting word, Joanne lived with a spirit of generosity that never dimmed.

She loved the simple, beautiful things in life like baking her famous lemon meringue pie, watching the birds, enjoying nature, tending her flowers, and caring for her beloved chickens.

Her home was always filled with the smell of something warm in the oven, the sound of birds outside her window, and the peace of a woman who found joy in God's creation.

Joanne nurtured everything she touched, from her family, to her work, and her plants and animals.

Above all, Joanne loved the Lord. She was a faithful prayer warrior, a woman who carried Scripture in her heart and shared the love of Jesus with grace and conviction.

Her faith was not just something she believed—it was something she lived. She prayed boldly, loved deeply, and encouraged others with a steady, unwavering hope.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents Josiah D. Walls and Ethel (Rogers) Walls (Bush); her stepfather Howard R Bush Sr; her husband James L “Skip” Parsons Jr; her older brother John M. Walls Sr.; and her sons James L. Parsons III and Jeremy D. Parsons.

She is survived by her brother Joseph D. Walls; her nephew John “Johnny” M. Walls Jr.; his wife Stacy Walls; and her daughter-in-law Nichole Parsons Lowe.

She is also survived by a host of grandchildren whom she loved dearly Rebecca Flaig; Georgia and Jake Parsons (Their mother: Lisa Sotir Parsons); Cody L.J. Parsons (His mother: Kristy Parsons Monroe); Lynn M. Parsons; Sydney A. Parsons (Her mother: Ashley R. Hartford), along with her grandchildren by marriage Thomas, Vincent, Matthew, and Kayrose Catalfamo, and Holt and Cale Baker.

Joanne's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and the beauty of a gentle heart. She will be remembered for her faith, huge smile, and the way she made every person feel like family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the love she poured into her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her honor to the First Baptist Church in Georgetown, and Delaware Hospice.

Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Services in Georgetown, Delaware. Online condolences and memories may be shared to the family at www.shortfuneralservicesandcremation.com
