Joan H. Emory, age 92, of Milford, Delaware, passed away peacefully at her home on December 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.


Joan was born on May 27, 1933, at her parents’ home on North Walnut Street in Milford, Delaware, to Arthur B. and Dorothy B. Hall. She grew up in Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1951, where she distinguished herself as a three-sport athlete, participating in field hockey, basketball, and tennis.


She continued her education at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia, where she studied business. Joan devoted 30 years of service as an office manager for Milford anesthesiologist, a role she carried out with dedication, professionalism, and care.


A lifelong member of the United Methodist Avenue Church, Joan was also an active member of the Milford Historical Society until her death and served for several years on the Delaware Library Board. She was an avid reader who enjoyed watching sports, spending time with her family, and cherishing lifelong friendships formed in childhood.


Joan was married to her beloved husband, Gilbert Emory, for 72 years. She is also survived by her sons, Chris Emory (Jean) and Patrick Emory (Judy); two grandchildren, Hunter Emory (Jamie) and Janna Emory-Bradley (Kyle); and four great-grandchildren, Hunter Jr., Reece, Aiden, and Roy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Hall.


The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to the Milford Public Library. Checks may be made payable to Milford Public Library, with “In memory of Joan Emory” noted in the memo line, and mailed to 11 SE Front Street, Milford, DE 19963.


She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
