Jean Peoples, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in the hearts of those who loved her on October 10, 2026, just one day after celebrating her 93rd birthday. A lifelong source of love, laughter, and strength for her family, Jean leaves behind a legacy of compassion, unwavering loyalty, and cherished memories that will live on for generations.
Born in Georgetown, Delaware, in 1933, Jean was the middle child of the late Virden and Mildred R. Macklin. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1950, where she played on the basketball team. A determined and hardworking young woman, Jean worked at her Uncle Manford’s jewelry store to pay her way through nursing school, demonstrating the dedication and perseverance that would remain hallmarks of her life.
In 1952, a blind date with a Navy man named Ernie Peoples changed the course of her life. What began as a chance meeting blossomed into a remarkable love story. Jean and Ernie married in 1954 and built a life together grounded in love, devotion, and family. Ernie was her soulmate and the love of her life, and their enduring bond was a beautiful reflection of the commitment they shared.
Jean’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Mark and David, and later embraced the treasured role of “Mommom” to her grandchildren, Kara and D.J. She loved her family fiercely and stood by those she loved with unwavering loyalty. Her family always knew they could count on her love, her care, and her steadfast support.
Known for her compassionate and giving nature, Jean had a special gift for making others feel loved and bringing happiness into their lives. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes and sharing funny stories. Her storytelling could turn an ordinary moment into a lasting memory, and her laughter brought people together. Those who knew Jean will remember not only her generous heart but also her ability to find joy in life and share that joy with others.
Jean believed in the importance of family, the power of kindness, and the value of standing by the people you love. Her warmth, strength, humor, and devotion shaped the lives of those around her. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love she gave and the memories she created will continue to bring comfort to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernie Peoples, and her younger brother, Sonny Macklin. She is survived by her older sister, Helen Holleger; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Peoples; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Peoples; and her grandchildren, Kara and D.J. Peoples. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family members and many dear friends.
Jean’s family will forever cherish the stories, laughter, and love she leaves behind. Her legacy will live on through the generations she nurtured, the kindness she shared, and the family she held so close to her heart.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, a private service will be held to celebrate and commemorate Jean’s life.
She was deeply loved, she will be profoundly missed, and she will never be forgotten.
