Jane L. (Sharp) Carey

April 11, 1954 — August 7, 2025

Milton

MILTON – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jane L. (Sharp) Carey, who departed this life peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 71. Jane was a cherished lifelong resident of Milton, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that touched everyone she met.

Born to the late W. Paynter, Sr., and Thelma (Lank) Sharp, Jane's roots in Milton ran deep. For 21 years, she dedicated herself as a paraprofessional at the Cape Henlopen School District, particularly at H.O.B., where her patience and nurturing spirit helped countless students grow and thrive. Earlier in her career, Jane worked for Citizen Bank, establishing strong connections with the many people she encountered throughout her professional journey.

Jane’s true joy came from her family. She created a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. Her love of cooking came from her mother; from baking to crafting homemade strawberry ice cream. She had an undeniable knack for comfort food, whether it was a hearty bowl of Limas or a pot of dumplings. Although she initially shied away from crab feasts, Jane eventually embraced this local delicacy.

Her love for nature was evident in how she spent her days. Whether sunning in the pool or fishing, Jane found peace outdoors. She enjoyed the beauty of flowers and spent hours watching hummingbirds. Most importantly, time spent with her family – especially her grandsons – were a primary part of her happiness. These connections strengthened the fabric of her life, filling it with joy and purpose.

Jane was deeply involved in her church community at Goshen UM Church in Milton. As an active member of the choir, she shared her love of music and worship with others, inspiring those around her. Jane's commitment to her faith illustrated the importance she placed on community and togetherness. She was also a member of the Goshen United Methodist Women.

Jane was a member of the Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Leonard F. “Lenny” Williams.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Milton F. Carey; two children, Stephen Carey and wife Christa, Angela Jones and husband Jay; three grandsons, Jack Carey, Jacob, and John Handley; and her brothers, William P. Sharp, Jr. and wife Joan, Henry A. Sharp and wife Deborah. Along with her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and extended family.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of Jane’s caregivers for their kindness and compassion.
