Ivan Cay Sr., age 73, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love for his family, faithful service to his country, and kindness to all who knew him.

Born on October 12, 1952, Ivan grew up in Puerto Rico before leaving home at the age of 18 to join the U.S. Army National Guard. He proudly served his country for 21 years, including during Operation Desert Storm and several other deployments. His military service shaped the discipline, strength, and integrity that became the foundation of his life.

In addition to his military career, Ivan devoted more than 40 years to leadership in the poultry industry, serving as a respected manager for Allen’s and Perdue. Ivan studied Poultry Science at Delaware Tech in Georgetown, Delaware. Even after retirement, he remained active, working for Jor-Lin Tour & Charter and Hertrich Buick, happily earning what he affectionately called his “grandchildren spending money”.

Above all else, Ivan was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Elvia Cay; his six children, Zully Cay Gomez, Veronica Ayala (Donald), Ivan Cay Jr. (Helena), Eddie Cay (Kristen), Kenny Cay (Holly), and his Princess, Ivanessa Cay; thirteen cherished grandchildren (Kristi, Katie, Jonathon, Marcos, Skyler, Joshua, Brandon, Jerimy, Emmy, Cash, Mateo, Lily and Ronnie); seven great-grandchildren (Adeline, Alana, Bennet, Daniela, Leia, Maya, Gabriel) and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother, Nazaria Tolentino Castro (Pedro), and his brothers, Wilfredo (Luz) and Juan Cay (Dolores) of Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Cay; his beloved granddaughter, ZullyMar; his cousin and lifelong best friend, Zulma Cay; and his dear friend, Rusty Tressler.

Ivan lived life with enthusiasm and a generous heart. He loved baseball and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, always ready for a spirited conversation about his favorite teams. He found joy in fishing, spending time on his boat, working on cars, and making long drives just to spend a few treasured hours with family. Sundays often found him watching classic westerns.

His generosity extended beyond his family. Ivan volunteered his time assisting the Seaford Police Department by interpreting for Spanish-speaking community members and faithfully supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He also had a special appreciation for Cadillacs and enjoyed many visits to Hertrich.

Nothing brought Ivan greater pride than his grandchildren. Whether in the stands or on the sidelines, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on, enthusiastically offering his signature “live coaching” from the bleachers.

A man of deep faith, Ivan faithfully served as an usher at Iglesia de la Comunidad de Crossroad, where he welcomed others with warmth, kindness, and a genuine smile. He loved spending Friday nights with the Men’s Cafe group, walking alongside other men of faith.

Ivan will be remembered for his steadfast faith, loyal friendship, generous spirit, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. His life was a testament to service, sacrifice, and the importance of showing up for the people you love. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be held at Crossroad Church in Georgetown, Delaware on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10am to 11 am. A funeral service will take place at the church from 11am to noon, with a luncheon directly after.

After the service, Ivan will make one final journey home to Puerto Rico, where he will be laid to rest following services with his family and loved ones who will gather to celebrate his life and bid him a loving farewell.
