Howard John “Jack” Derrickson Jr., beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 23, 2026, in New York, New York. Born on October 4, 1950, in Lewes, Delaware, Jack’s life was marked by dedication to his family, a passion for communication, and a steadfast commitment to enriching the lives of those around him.

Jack grew up in Lewes, Delaware, where he graduated from Lewes High School as part of the Class of 1968. He continued his academic journey at the University of Delaware, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in 1972. His education laid the groundwork for a meaningful career in the vibrant world of media and broadcasting.

Shortly after college, Jack moved to New York City, a place he would proudly call home for much of his adult life. He began his professional journey with ABC, contributing his expertise and enthusiasm to one of the nation's leading broadcasting companies. Jack’s career flourished when he joined the Paley Center for Media, where he served as a visitors services associate. There, he became an integral part of the institution, warmly welcoming guests and sharing his extensive knowledge of the media landscape.

Jack’s warm presence and unwavering kindness deeply touched the lives of his family and friends. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his sister, Myra Hudson; his nieces, Carrie Taulbee and Jamie Emory; his great-granddaughter and grandson; and his devoted friend, Tom McKenna. Jack’s memory is also cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him, whether through family bonds, lasting friendships, or his professional achievements.

He was predeceased by his brother, Glenn Derrickson, and his parents, Howard and Luella Derrickson.

A family service to honor Jack’s life will be held in New York City at a later date.

Jack Derrickson’s legacy is carried on in the memories of those he loved and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
