Helen Charlotte Davis, 78, of Milford, Delaware passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Sussex Campus on November 17, 2025.
She was born in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1947 in the Philadelphia Naval Hospital, which is no longer in existence. She was born to Charles H Donovan Sr. and Helen E Robinson Donovan. Helen was baby boomer having been born two years after World War II. Helen was the 2nd child in a family of four children.
Helen graduated from Brandywine High School in 1965. After high school, Helen worked in the long-ago position as a telephone operator at the switchboard. She then worked in insurance at Traveler’s Insurance, INA, and Marvel Agency. In 1970, Helen met a long-haired motorcyclist riding man, John B Davis, Jr, who would later become her husband June 1970. Helen and John had 3 children, Tracy, Adrienne and Amanda (Dani).
After the children were school age, Helen started working for the State of Delaware in the public health sector, primarily in the WIC (Women, Infant, Children) program. Helen worked for the state for 19 years before she retired in 2007. During this time, Helen enjoyed many activities. She was a Girl Scout leader for over 15 years in Troops 73 and 1469. Helen was an avid bowler for over 20 years, sometimes serving as the league treasurer. Helen was an avid Nascar fan routing for Rusty Wallace and then later Chase Elliot. Helen loved hot air balloons, but was too scared to ride in one. Helen was an animal lover having many dogs and cats throughout her life, including, Brandy, Elektra, Saphira, Heidi, Buck and Princess. Lastly, family was important to Helen. Whenever there was an opportunity for a party or family get together, Helen was always present.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 22 and half years, John. Her parents, Charles and Helen and her beloved sister, Caryolyn Watkins. Helen is survived by her 3 children, Tracy (Wayne) Passwaters, Adrienne (George) Tice, and Dani (Bryan) Davis. Her 3 grandchildren, Tristen (Zach) Short, TJ Short (Darlena), and John (Ravyn) Tice. Her 3 great-grandchildren, Ella, Hazel and Raien. And her 2 brothers, Chick (Suzanne) and Bill (Michelle). And many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the viewing at Berry-Short Funeral Home in Milford on November 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at Christ Church Milford at 1:00 or after the service.
