Hazel Mae (Moore) Davis, 89

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Hazel Mae Davis went home to the Lord, and back into the loving arms of her husband, Joe.

Hazel was born April 17, 1936, to Joseph and Anna Moore, in Sussex County, Delaware.

She was employed by DuPont Chestnut Run for over 30 years until her retirement. Never one to remain idle, she returned to work as a “lunch lady” at McCullough Middle School, where she worked until her stroke in 2013. A stroke that would have taken her years too early if not for her fight and the love and care of her devoted daughters, Jean and Brenda, and her son-in-law, George.

Hazel enjoyed cooking, spending summer days out on the boat, clamming, sitting on her front porch and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joys were her great-grandchildren, and a good deal.

Hazel is survived by her loving sister, Margaret Bradley; daughters, Jean Smiley (George), Brenda Plumley-Kenney (Hugh), and Mary Ann Crosley; five grandchildren, Shannon Hudson (James), Lisa Ruth (Walt), Christopher Plumley, Erica Clark (Phil), and Erin Marando (Mike); and nine great-grandchildren with whom she created such a special bond that no words were needed, AJ, Tristen, Amoni, Ayden, Quinten, Addyson, Colton, Paxton, and Roman.

Hazel was cared for by Dr. Huy Le, and his medical staff, whom she grew to love.

We are forever grateful for the lessons she taught us about family, resilience, and the importance of love without bounds.

Hazel’s family held a private service to celebrate her life.
