Elizabeth “Betty” Foxwell

Elizabeth Foxwell, known as "Betty", was born on July 20, 1941, in Milton, Delaware. She passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford, Delaware on September 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

A devoted wife to William "Bill" Foxwell, Sr., they were married for 65 wonderful years. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures, including many camping trips with family and friends and winters being snowbirds in Jensen Beach, Florida. She also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.

Betty was a lifetime member of the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She joined the Auxiliary in 1961, during her 64 years of service she held offices of Vice President and President. She retired from Sussex County Council in 2005 after 28 years. She worked in the Engineering Department. She also worked at W.T. Grant Co. in Milford, Delaware she worked the candy counter and was the manager of the lunch counter.

Betty leaves behind a cherished family that included her daughter, Vickie Foxwell (John); her son, William Foxwell, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Christine; her grandson, Michael Foxwell (Lori); her granddaughter, Mason Foxwell; sister, Linda Walls; sisters-in-law Joan Walls and Sandy Walls; and several nieces and nephews. Each member of her family carried a piece of her spirit, reflecting the values and warmth she instilled in them.

She will be missed by her loved ones and all who had the privilege to know her. Betty was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill" Foxwell, Sr.; her parents, Millard and Helen Walls; brothers, Millard "Dicky" Walls, Jr., Raymond Walls, Robert Walls; and sister-in-law Darlene Walls.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 12:00pm, with visitation from 10:00am-12:00pm, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. Interment will follow the service at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to either the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Co. or to the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary at P.O. Box. 5 Ellendale, DE 19941.
