Doris L. Thompson, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at home in Milford, Delaware surrounded by her loved ones. Born on November 30, 1933, in Magnolia, Delaware, she was the cherished daughter of David and Dorothy Moore.
Doris lived a life dedicated to her family and community. Following the grace of her parents’ teachings, she exemplified unwavering commitment and love throughout her life. She was a proud member of the South Bowers Ladies Auxiliary and an active attendee of Sardis United Methodist Church, where she created numerous friendships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
For over two decades, Doris demonstrated her dedication to public service by working as a clerk in the Dover Family Courts. Her work impacted many lives, reflecting her kind-hearted nature and her desire to help others.
Doris was preceded in death by her devoted husband, W. Pierce Thompson Sr. Together, they built a life filled with joy and love. She is survived by her three children: W. Pierce Thompson Jr. (Bonnie), Gregory Thompson (Kathy), and Brian Thompson (Donna). Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren: W. Pierce III, Timmy, Casey, Caitlin, Diana, Erica, Brandon, Kristin, and Brittany. Further, Doris took great joy in her role as a matriarch, with 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable delight to her life.
Doris is also survived by her siblings, Jack Moore, Charlotte Wallace, Joan Surface, and Beverly Jester, who will fondly remember her warmth and guidance. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Moore, as well as David Moore, Vivian Torbert, and Kenneth Moore, and her great-grandson Kody Thompson-Crowley, who are surely welcoming her with open arms.
Family and friends are invited to honor Doris at the Berry-Short Funeral Homes in Milford, Delaware. Visitation will take place on September 29, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by her funeral service at 1:00 PM. Doris will be laid to rest at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica, Delaware, at 2:00 PM.
Doris L. Thompson will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of all those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
