Don was born July 13th, 1945 in Lakewood, Ohio to Joseph and Esther Wohlever. Don spent most of his childhood life growing up on a farm and attended Elyria Catholic High School in Elyria, Ohio. Upon graduation, Don joined the Air Force and, like most young men of the time, he ended up stationed in Vietnam. Don enjoyed his time in the Air Force and his most told stories were about times when he was a flying Crew Chief on the C-133 aircraft. This is a portion of his life that to his dying day he held with the highest amount of pride and dignity. Upon returning from the war, Don was stationed in Dover, Delaware and fell in love with the area. This is where he met his wife of 54 years, Joan. They raised 4 children, Lori, Melody, Rebecca, and Donald. During this time Don worked at the International Playtex Corporation beginning in 1972 until his retirement in 2004. After retirement he continued on as a consultant there for a number of years before joining Walmart as a bicycle assembler and conversationalist to all of the local patrons that came to visit.
Don was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Milford, DE and enjoyed his service to the church being a Eucharistic Minister almost every Sunday that he was present. Don also volunteered for many years at the Milford Little League coaching the Major League Team, the Tigers. In his later years Don was a volunteer at the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover, Delaware. There, he loved to talk to people about the many aircraft at the museum, especially the C-133 as that was the aircraft that he spent most of his time in the military as a crew chief. During his later years, he and Joan moved to Florida, before returning several years later due to health concerns.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Esther, brothers Lawrence and Alan, and daughter Melody. Don is survived by his wife Joan, children, Lori (Pete), Rebecca, and Don (Jennifer), as well his brother Raymond (Shar) and his sister Janet (Larry), as well as two brothers-in-law, Rick and Ronald Johnson, and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to these family members Don also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Don passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
A Prayer Service will be offered by Deacon Nick Vasquez at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Homes, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, Del 19963, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at Noon.
