Dennis L. Maloney, Sr., born on June 30, 1948, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at his home in Harrington, Delaware. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, and his passing marks the loss of a remarkable man who lived a full and dedicated life.
Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where his courage and commitment earned him the Bronze Star, a testament to his valor and dedication. Following his military service, he pursued a lifelong career as an industrial maintenance mechanic, working diligently for Playtex, which later became Energizer, contributing his skills and steady work ethic.
A committed member of the American Legion, Dennis held a deep respect for his comrades and the bonds forged through service. Beyond his professional and military achievements, he was a man of varied interests and passions. An avid gardener and keen observer of nature, he delighted in watching birds and squirrels, finding peace and joy in the simple wonders around him.
Dennis also found pleasure in various hobbies, including playing checkers and pool at the Frederica Senior Center, and indulging in his fascination with history and the unexplained through the History Channel programs such as “Ancient Aliens.” He was equally entertained by classic television shows like “Gunsmoke,” reflecting a nostalgic appreciation for storytelling and heritage.
He faced his final days with courage and grace, receiving care from Compassionate Care Hospice during his battle with lung cancer. Dennis’s strength and spirit remained evident until the end.
Dennis is survived by his children: Dennis Maloney Jr., Amy Maloney, Chris Maloney, and Phillip “PJ” Maloney. He also leaves behind treasured grandchildren Michael, Caitlin, and Katherine Maloney, who brought joy and pride to his life, as well as a beloved granddog named Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Miller and Mary (Sparks) Maloney; his brother David Maloney; his sister Faye LeCates; and his grandparents, Averla and McKinley Maloney, who played an important role in his upbringing, living next door during his youth.
