Obituary for Deborah J. Mitchell

Deborah J. Mitchell, 62, of Dover, DE passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE.

Debbie was born in Milford, DE on September 23, 1962, to her parents Elisha Wilkerson and Naomi (Sockriter) Wilkerson.

Debbie grew up in Milton, DE and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School. She was a waitress at the Lamp Post and Crystal Restaurants. Debbie enjoyed going to the beach, casinos but most of all enjoyed time with her family. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Dick H. Mitchell; children, John P. “J.P.” Schofield, Matthew E. Schofield, Shannon Gates; grandson, Donald Wheeler, III; and siblings, Phyllis Lawson, Robert Wilkerson, Wayne Wilkerson, and Kenny Wilkerson.

She is survived by sister, Pat Vent (Snookie); brother, Gary Wilkerson (Tracey); many nieces and nephews; Godson, Justin Wheeler and faithful companion, Forrest, her cat.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE where a time of visitation will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Milton Odd Fellows Cemetery.
