ELLENDALE – Deborah H. Clendaniel passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long fight with Multiple Sclerosis.
Deborah was born on September 5, 1950. She was 73. Deborah was the daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Carey) McCabe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Clendaniel, her sisters, Neva Hickman West, Christine Hudson, Marguerite Bunting, and Lorraine Cromer, as well as her brother, Raymond McCabe, Jr.
Deborah was survived by her daughter, Sara H. Baker, grandchildren, Ellie and McKenna Baker. She was also survived by her brother, Robert McCabe, sister, Janice (Bud) Smith, several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Sandy Wilson was like a daughter to Deborah and loving cared for her for eight years.
Deborah began her career as an aide in Legislative Hall and then worked for the Sussex County S.E.T.A program helping youth with employment in the summers. Deborah was the HR Director for Sea Watch International in Milford. Because of her experience in helping people with career planning and employment, Deborah was hired as the Sussex County manager of the State of Delaware Personnel Office. With her husband, Howard, Deborah was a self-employed business owner and farmer.
Deborah enjoyed doing crafts, reading, and traveling. She was a life-long Democrat and enjoyed local politics and political gatherings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market Street, Georgetown, Del 19947. Visitation will begin at 10:00. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
