David J. Rementer, Sr. age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife Ruth and family. Born on June 2, 1941 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware to Chester and Beatrice Rementer. David graduated from The Georgetown High School, class of 1959.
David proudly served 8 years in the Delaware Army National Guard and was a member of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a dedicated member of the Jaycees, where he was especially known for his entertaining skits at their annual Hoedown fundraiser, which benefited many organizations.
In addition to a civic involvement, David served as a Boy Scout leader. He also held the role of Vice-Chairman and Sunday school teacher at the Georgetown Wesleyan Church. For 15 years, David faithfully ministered to the residents of Harrison House Senior Living alongside his grandson, Matthew Parker. David would often hand out Lifesavers with a smile and say the words, “This lifesaver may not save you, but Jesus will.”
Professionally, David worked at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford for 33 years, where he was affectionately called “Pard” by his coworkers. After retiring from DuPont, he worked for LabCorp for 15 years. Then, he worked another 16 years alongside his wife Ruth, cleaning the office of Drs. Dustin and Eileen Davis at Georgetown Family Medicine.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Rementer, his daughters Dawn Elliott (husband John), and Pamela S. Parker (her late husband Bobby R. Parker, Jr.), and his son David J. Rementer, Jr., (wife Leslie), and granddaughters Meghan Elliott, Kelsey Rementer, Mackenzie Rementer, and his niece Trudy Kruger.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Chester and Beatrice Rementer, his sister Josephine Kruger (her late husband Alvin "Buzz" Kruger), and his grandson, Matthew David Parker.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, DE. Visitation will take place from 12 noon until 2pm, followed by the funeral service at 2pm. The graveside service will be held immediately following at the Union Cemetery in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
