David Alonzo Holloway, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and devoted member of his community, passed away peacefully at his home on May 31, 2026. Born on January 15, 1939, in Georgetown, Delaware, David lived a life marked by love, dedication, and commitment to those around him.
From the beginning of his career in 1961, David served faithfully at the Sussex Vocational School District, continuing his work as it became Sussex Tech School until his retirement in 2001. His deep pride in contributing to the education and environment of Sussex County was evident in every task he undertook as Director of Building Grounds. This school was one of the many loves of his life, reflecting his strong sense of responsibility and care for others.
Outside of his professional life, David found joy in simple pleasures that brought connections with family and friends. He was passionate about sports, rooting enthusiastically for the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and Alabama softball team. NASCAR races delighted him, especially cheering for Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr. His love of games came alive during hours spent shooting pool and playing cards with friends. Always present at his grandchildren’s sporting events—whether soccer, baseball, hockey, wrestling, or football—David’s pride and encouragement were a constant source of warmth and support.
David’s legacy is carried forward by his loving wife, Wendy L. Holloway, who stood by his side through life’s many moments. Together they raised a wonderful family, including children Denise Kimbro, Darlene Plummer, Robin Peterson, and Shawn Steele, along with Shawn’s wife, Dawn. His circle of love extended to grandchildren Cassie Seehousz and her husband Jake, Adelyn Boyer, Evelyn Boyer, David Short, Amber Boyer and her husband Chuck, Christopher Chambers, Dena Kennedy and her husband Jeff, Alex Kimbro, Tanner Peterson, Parker Steele, and Landon Steele. His memory will also live on in his great-grandchild Weston Seehousz.
He was supported and surrounded by loving siblings and extended family, including his brother Ronnie Holloway and his wife Mary, and sister-in-law Fay Statler. Though he was predeceased by his parents James and Alice Holloway, sisters Marian Stuart and Dorothy Pulley, and grandson Michael David Chambers, those memories remain treasured by all who hold David dear.
Family, friends, and community are invited to honor David’s remarkable life at a visitation on June 4, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, both held at Short Funeral Services in Georgetown, Delaware.
