Darrel Jesse Fleming

His Story

Darrel Jesse Fleming, age 60, of Felton DE, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, with his loving wife by his side after a long illness that he faced bravely with Jehovah’s help. His last words were to his wife “I love you”.

Darrel was born on January 11, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY to Leslie and Muriel Fleming. Darrel was the fifth child born from his parent’s special union.

Darrel had many interests such as home improvement projects and cooking really good food. Some of his favorites were homemade butter pecan ice cream, candied yams, homemade vanilla extract and clam chowder.

He grew up in Bushwick, Brooklyn NY surrounded by a loving family and neighborhood where he was loved and had a reputation of growing up to be a man “who said what he meant” and “did what he said.” Darrel retired from New York City Transit Authority where he worked for 29 years. His nickname was “Iron”. he was a strong man and coming to know Jehovah made him a strong spiritual man.

On 12/30/2006 Darrel dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved teaching the truth about Jehovah God to others and this led hi to make life-long friendships with many. His wife’s and his mother’s example as spiritual women helped him make the decision to dedicate his life to Jehovah.

Darrel served as a full-time evangelizer with the goal of serving where there was greater need to teach others about Jehovah and His wonderful he made life long friendships with many of his students. At the time of his passing Darrel served as an elder in the Felton Congregation in Delaware. Prior to serving as an elder in Delaware he served as an Elder in the Bedford English Congregation in Brooklyn NY . Hundreds of members from congregations along with friends and family in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and other places sincerely loved Darrel. He will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Adrienne Denise Fleming, his sisters, Priscilla Lowe (William), Roberta Woodford (Clifford) and his brother Clarence Fleming (Patricia). In addition to his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by his brother Leslie (“Moody”) Fleming, Jr. (Rosalyn) and sister Audrey Rochelle (Clarence).

Sister-in-laws Martha McGowan (Donald), Andrea Dianne Bishop (Edward), Joanne Lynn Zeigler, Brother-in-law Jonathan Zeigler (Trina), Tracey Denine Zeigler-Washington (Lacey) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 450 Upper King Rd., Felton DE 19943 and simultaneously at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 1152 Bushwick Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11221.
