Clair Alvin Mervine, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Delmar on January 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 6, 1938, in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, Clair touched the lives of many both his personal and professional endeavors.

He dedicated a significant portion of his life to helping others as he facilitated and sold Prudential Insurance, where he gained the respect and admiration of his clients and colleagues alike. Clair's unwavering commitment to his work exemplified his character and his desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those around him.

In addition to his career, Clair proudly served in the Army National Guard, where he exhibited dedication and pride in serving his country. He continued to carry that spirit of determination into his personal life, engaging in hobbies like classic cars and the great outdoors, where he spent many happy moments hunting deer locally, bear in Maine and fishing. His love for classic cars was well-known, and he took pride in owning and showing his 1956 Ford Thunderbird.

Clair was warmly remembered by his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dottie Mervine, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. His legacy continues through his children, Brooks Mervine, Deena Whitaker and her husband Kenny, and Rick Hughes and his wife Emmy; his brother, Harold Mervine; as well as his grandchildren: Jessica Jester, Linda Davis and her husband Bradley, Brian Whitaker and his wife Autumn, Troy Whitaker, Michael Whitaker and his wife Laura. Further enriching his family tapestry are his cherished great grandchildren: John Serviss and his fiance Cameron Knowles, Camryn Serviss, Krystine Davis, Alyssa Davis, Emmalyn Davis, Talen Jester, Aubree Williamson, Tristan Whitaker, Damien Whitaker, Jaycee Whitaker, Elijah Whitaker, Foster Whitaker, and Dallas Whitaker.


He was predeceased by his his first wife of 32 years Eunice Mervine, his parents, Wilford and Beatrice Mervine, and his half-brother Kenneth.
