Cheryl Ann Dodd

August 1, 1954 — January 17, 2022

*********CHANGE OF SERVICE NOTICE************ Due to forecasted weather the service for Cheryl is postponed until Monday, January 31, 2022. Cheryl Ann Dodd resident of Georgetown, DE passed away on January 17, 2022, at the age of 67. Cheryl was a dedicated mother and grandmother and a retired Accountant of Service Energy. Those closest to Cheryl will most remember her easy laughter. She could often be found gleefully competing at board games or dancing and singing with friends. She cherished being gathered around her village of loved ones and delighted in the company of anyone who may decide to stop by. Among her most favorite memories were camping trips with her girlfriends (self-proclaimed the Sussex County Biddies). As a leader of her girl pack, Cheryl could be found corralling the group for a craft project or starting a song by the fire. After having children, the camping adventures grew in size and jubilation. These camping trips blended both Cheryl’s given and chosen family and created a mountain of memories for all lucky enough to join. This ability to transform friends into family was a seamless skill for her. Cheryl spent many summer nights in Bethany Beach with her family. She could often be found relaxing on the canal, heron watching, and sunset set chasing. South Bethany was always a place she felt connected to her parents, siblings, and the memories of her childhood. She recreated those memories for her daughters and husband many years after. In her retirement, Cheryl enjoyed honing her gardening prowess and bird watching skills. She was also an avid puzzler and loved anything that challenged her intellect. To know her was to know joy. She loved well and was loved well all her days. Cheryl is predeceased by her parents Walter and Helen McClure of Seaford, DE. Cheryl is survived by her husband of 40 years Richard Dodd; her daughters Sydney Gray and husband Ben Gray, and Sarah Dodd and wife Ashley Maness; her sisters Lea Wimbrow and husband Vaughn Wimbrow, and Lynn Diedrickson and husband Ken Diedrickson; numerous nieces and nephews and three wonderful and wild grandchildren: Carter, Campbell, and Caleb. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 29, 2022, at 1PM at Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market Street, Georgetown, DE 19947. Visitation with family to begin at 12PM.
