Carl Henry Shelman, born on April 2, 1947, departed this life on January 13, 2026, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware. He was known for his outdoorsy spirit and dedication to a life well-lived.
Carl moved to Delaware in 1989 from Philadelphia, PA, and became a valued member of his community, participating in organizations such as the FFA and the Harrington Moose Lodge #534. He proudly served in the US Navy, retiring after 30 years of honorable military service.
Passionate about craftsmanship, Carl enjoyed building furniture and was particularly proud of constructing his own home with the help of two of his brothers. His love for the outdoors extended to lawn care and landscaping, where he was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors.
A devoted family man, Carl is survived by his wife, Ardith Irene (Smith) Shelman; daughters, Angela, Carmela, and Vesta Shelman; brothers, Paul and Warren Shelman; sister, Rosemary O'Mara; grandchildren Samuel Brooks, Ackael Lestat, Danea Davis, Desirea Pitt, Destiny Shelman, and Elizabeth Ann Jump; along with three great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, D.C. and Sarah (Barrow) Shelman, and siblings Dennis, Michael, Lloyd Shelman, and Linda Lee Foskett. His legacy of love for family, commitment to service, and a passion for the outdoors will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
