Barrett E. “Barry” King

1956 — 2025

Lincoln, Delaware

Barrett E. “Barry” King died with dignity, comforted by loved ones. After spending part of his youth in Salisbury, Maryland, Barry made his home in Lincoln, where he dedicated much of his working life to King’s Market, the family business founded by his parents.

Barry enjoyed things like baseball, music, and Westerns, as well as cultural ephemera, obscure details and eccentric humor.

Known for his sharp wit and love of spirited debate, he was as much the life of the party as he was the master of discourse. Barry had a signature way of making an entrance before eventually slipping away unnoticed until the next gathering.

Predeceased by Alton O. “Ollie” and Annie B. King, parents Barry loved deeply and cared for in their final years, the proudest accomplishments of Barry’s life were as a father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved son, Barrett, his daughter-in-law, Kristen, and his cherished grandchildren. Barry also leaves behind six of his seven siblings and their spouses, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children.

A loyal friend, Barry carried with him treasured memories of years spent with those he held as close as family. Many of the friends Barry chose to be family preceded him in death - one of whom Barry helped care for in that person’s final days. Among those he leaves behind, one friend remained most steadfast of all.

A celebration of Barry’s life will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Berry-Short Funeral Home in Milford, followed by his burial at Lincoln Cemetery. A reception will be held afterward for the family Barry was born into, as well as the family he chose as his own.

Never one for material things, always engaged in the pursuit of knowledge and compassionate towards animals, Barry’s legacy can be honored through donations to your local animal shelter or to the Salisbury University Philosophy Department’s Annual Symposium in his name and memory.
